Richard Gere, the beloved actor known for his roles in Pretty Woman and other Hollywood classics, has officially transitioned to a new chapter of his life in Spain. Gere, 75, and his Spanish-born wife, Alejandra Silva, recently relocated to Madrid with their two young children, leaving behind their Connecticut mansion, which sold for $10.75 million in an off-market deal earlier this year.
Silva gave fans a charming glimpse into their new home just in time for the holiday season. She shared an image on Instagram of their two sons joyfully decorating a Christmas tree. The heartfelt caption, written in Spanish, reflected her excitement: “As Jamie says, ‘Mom, today is the first day of Christmas!’ I love their energy, their innocence. This year, finally, Christmas in Spain!”
The photo captured a cozy moment: four-year-old Jamie hanging an ornament while his older brother Alexander, five, rummaged through boxes of decorations. In the background, unpacked shelves and festive Santa Claus statues hinted at the family’s ongoing process of settling into their new environment.
Embracing a New Life in Europe
Gere had shared his plans to move to Spain earlier this year, citing the desire to bring his family closer to Silva’s roots. In an interview with Vanity Fair Spain, he described Spain as a country of “extraordinary food, sensitive and generous people, and a zest for life.” He explained that it was time to immerse his family in Silva’s culture, noting, “She gave me six years in my world; now I want to give her six years in hers.”
Farewell to a Stunning U.S. Property
Before making the move, Gere sold his 31-acre Connecticut estate, which he had purchased in 2022 from musician Paul Simon. The property, originally built in 1938 by architect Harold R. Sleeper, boasted five bedrooms, soaring ceilings, and expansive natural light. It also featured meticulously landscaped gardens, a swimming pool, and a 1,500-square-foot guesthouse described as a “creative oasis.”
Although the mansion was initially listed at $13.9 million, Gere secured the home for $10.8 million. However, the actor accepted a small loss when selling it for $10.75 million just two years later.
Keeping a U.S. Connection
Despite the move, Gere revealed that he intends to maintain a property in the United States. While details are sparse, he described it as a countryside home near New York. Over the years, Gere has owned several impressive estates in the region, including a 50-acre Westchester property he sold for $28 million in 2022 and a Hamptons retreat once listed for $65 million.
Silva also shared moments from their life in New York on social media, including images of a vegetable garden the family cultivated during the pandemic. “We created this incredible vegetable garden together as a family,” she captioned one photo, showcasing the idyllic setup.
Looking Ahead
Gere and Silva, who married in 2018, share two sons and have built a blended family that includes Gere’s older son, Homer, 24, and Silva’s son, Albert, 11, from previous relationships. While it’s unclear if Albert will join them in Spain, the family appears to be embracing their new European lifestyle with joy and excitement.
The couple’s transition marks a fresh start filled with cultural connection, family bonding, and the creation of new memories in their Madrid home—a perfect setting for the upcoming holiday season.
