Five Suspects, Including Michael Jerome Mitchell, 19, Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Ex-College Football Player D.D. Bowie, 27, in Rankin County

A disturbance on Adams Road turned deadly Friday evening, leaving a promising young athlete’s family and community in mourning

Former Ole Miss and Jackson State University football player Idarrious Iantron “D.D.” Bowie, 27, was fatally shot on the evening of Friday, June 5, in the northern part of Rankin County, Mississippi. Five suspects have since been taken into custody in connection with the killing.

Deputies with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office responded just after 6 p.m. to the 100 block of Adams Road after receiving a report of a disturbance that had escalated into gunfire.

When they arrived, they found Bowie suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported by Pafford EMS to a local hospital, where he later died despite lifesaving efforts.

Witnesses told investigators they saw a small gray passenger car leaving the scene with multiple occupants. One firearm was recovered, and investigators processed the crime scene, collected evidence, and conducted witness interviews.

Swift Arrests Follow the Shooting

Within hours of the shooting, investigators identified and arrested Ladarious Harrison, 18, and Dominick Sanabria, 19, both charged with murder. Authorities also arrested Semiko Crump, 46, and Kaylee Trimble, 18, charging them with accessory after the fact of murder.

A fifth suspect, Michael Jerome Mitchell, 19, was later arrested and also charged with accessory after the fact.

According to Rankin County authorities, Ladarius Harrison was out on bond Friday night when he was allegedly involved in the fatal shooting, as he was pending trial for attempted murder in Rankin County Circuit Court. Mitchell was taken into custody with assistance from the Flowood Police Department.

Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey praised the speed of his department’s response.

“Violence has no place in our community,” Bailey said. “This senseless act has left a family grieving and a community searching for answers. We remain committed to pursuing justice for the victim, holding those responsible fully accountable, and continuing our mission of keeping Rankin County a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.”

Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public, though additional arrests remain possible.

A Celebrated Athlete Remembered

Bowie was one of the top Mississippi prospects in the class of 2016 out of Morton High School, earning a 4-star ranking from multiple outlets and a U.S. Army All-American nod. He was also named MHSAA’s Mr. Football 3A and was a 2016 Dandy Dozen honoree, standing out as both a quarterback and wide receiver during his high school career.

He played in nine games at defensive back as a freshman at Ole Miss before transferring to Jackson State, playing as a wide receiver during the 2019 season. He had 35 receptions for 512 yards and five touchdowns with the Tigers.

Bowie’s death has sent shockwaves through Mississippi’s football community, where he was remembered as a gifted and highly recruited talent. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
