Amber Alert: 5-Year-Old Amaya Meithof Taken by Father in Carson City, Red Jeep Grand Cherokee Spotted

Authorities have issued an Amber Alert for a 5-year-old girl named Amaya Jade Meithof after she was taken from her home in Carson City, Nevada, by her father, Christopher Meithof, without permission.

The incident reportedly occurred around 9:30 to 10:00 in the morning, and the family is desperately pleading for the public’s help in bringing her home safely.

Christopher Meithof, 41, is described as a white male standing six feet tall and weighing approximately 170 pounds.

He was last seen driving a red Jeep Grand Cherokee bearing Oregon license plates 576QNU, though the child’s grandmother has since noted in an update that the plates on the vehicle may not actually belong to that car. Authorities and the public should keep this in mind while searching for the vehicle.

Family Raises Serious Concerns About the Child’s Safety

Paula Miller, who identifies herself as Amaya’s grandmother, took to social media, urging friends, family, and strangers to share the post immediately.

In her message, she explained that Christopher Meithof is currently on probation and is not legally permitted to leave the state of Oregon. Nevada police have taken the report and are working to contact his probation officer as part of the ongoing investigation.

Miller also shared that the father is a recovering drug addict and that there are concerns he may have relapsed.

She believes Amaya could be heading toward Salem, Oregon, where Christopher recently moved in with a girlfriend, though no address is currently available to law enforcement or the family. The combination of these factors has made the situation all the more urgent and frightening for everyone involved.

What the Public Can Do to Help

The Amber Alert has been broadcast across Nevada and surrounding regions, and law enforcement is urging anyone who spots the red Jeep Grand Cherokee or has any information about the whereabouts of Amaya or her father to contact law enforcement immediately.

People in the Reno, Carson City, and Salem, Oregon areas are being asked to remain especially vigilant.

Amaya Jade Meithof is five years old. Her grandmother shared that photos of the child and the vehicle were posted alongside the original social media message to help the public identify them quickly.

Anyone with relevant information is also encouraged to reach out directly to the family through private messages on social media.

This is an active and developing situation. Amber Alerts are reserved for cases where law enforcement believes a child is in imminent danger of serious harm or death, which underscores the urgency surrounding Amaya’s disappearance.

The family has expressed deep gratitude for every share, prayer, and offer of assistance that has come their way since the alert went out.

If you have any information that could help locate Amaya Jade Meithof or Christopher Meithof, do not hesitate. Call your local law enforcement or 911 immediately.

Every minute matters in situations like this, and the hope is that Amaya will be returned home safely as soon as possible.
