Comedian Dave Smith Turns on Trump Over Iran-Israel Conflict – Calls for Impeachment

Comedian and political commentator Dave Smith has never been shy about his views. A regular on “The Joe Rogan Experience” and a known libertarian voice, Smith surprised many when he said he backed Donald Trump in the last election. Now, he’s not only walking that back, he’s apologizing for it—loudly.

In a new episode of the “Breaking Points” podcast, Smith called out Trump’s response to the latest Iran-Israel conflict. He didn’t just express disappointment. He called for Trump’s impeachment.

The turning point: Trump’s Iran stance

The spark behind Smith’s anger is Trump’s recent push for Iran to return to the negotiating table over its nuclear program. After Iran fired missiles toward Israel last year, Trump responded by urging peace talks, saying both Iran and Israel should make a deal.

Smith was not impressed. He argued Iran wasn’t aiming to cause real damage with those missiles. Instead, he said, they were trying to show force without provoking full-blown war.

But Smith believes that time has passed. In his words, telling Iran to negotiate now is like asking FDR to talk to Japan right after Pearl Harbor. He sees it as weak, poorly timed, and disconnected from reality.

“He should be impeached”

Smith didn’t stop at criticism. He said plainly that Trump should be impeached over his handling of the conflict. His argument? Trump campaigned as a president who would end endless wars. Smith says pushing Iran now, while conflict is escalating, is the exact opposite of that promise.

“I supported him this last year. I apologize for doing so,” Smith said. “He should be impeached and removed for this one.”

He admitted Congress won’t act, but he called on other Trump supporters to wake up. “All of his supporters should turn on him,” Smith said. “It’s the absolute betrayal of everything that he ran and campaigned on.”

Political fallout for Trump?

Smith also predicted this would cost Trump politically. He warned that Trump is about to lose a major chunk of his support base—especially those who backed him because of his anti-war rhetoric.

According to Smith, Trump needed all the political momentum he could gather to win support for deportation policies. But now, by pushing military aggression, Smith thinks Trump has spent that capital.

“He is going to lose his coalition over this,” Smith warned. “There are a lot of us who simply will not go along with this.”

The bigger picture: rising tensions

The latest wave of violence started when Israel launched strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear scientists, uranium facilities, and military leadership. Israel claimed the action was necessary to slow down Iran’s nuclear progress.

Iran responded by firing ballistic missiles at Israeli targets. Many of the attacks were intercepted, but the message was clear—tensions are climbing fast.

Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful. And according to U.S. and international intelligence, Iran has not actively pursued a nuclear bomb since 2003. Still, the International Atomic Energy Agency says Iran now has enough enriched uranium to make multiple nuclear weapons if it chooses to.

This cycle of attacks and responses has left the region on edge. And for people like Dave Smith, it’s triggered a deeper reassessment of who they’re willing to support in American politics.
