Harlingen Infant Ja’Kayla Leanne Torres, 7 Months, Passes Away, leaving Mother Lydia Estrella De Los Santos

The South Texas community of Raymondville is mourning the loss of Ja’Kayla Leanne Torres, an infant who passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at just seven months old. She was born on October 16, 2025, in Harlingen, Texas, and her brief life left a lasting impression on those who knew and loved her.

Her mother, Lydia Estrella De Los Santos, now faces the unimaginable heartbreak that only a parent who has lost a child can understand. No words can fully capture the weight of such a loss, and the community around her has come forward to offer love and support during this devastating time.

Ja’Kayla’s obituary, published by Good Shepherd Funeral Home in Raymondville, includes a poem written in her memory titled “Little Angel, Forever Lay.” The words speak to the tenderness of a life that, though brief, filled the hearts of everyone around her.

The poem reads in part that while her stay was short like a fleeting sigh, she touched hearts and then said goodbye. It captures what so many grieving families struggle to put into words: that even the shortest lives carry the deepest meaning.

A Community Comes Together to Honor a Life Too Short

The loss of an infant touches a community in a way that is hard to describe. In Raymondville, a small city in Willacy County, people know their neighbors, and grief is shared.

The family has asked those who wish to honor Ja’Kayla’s memory to consider sending flowers or planting a tree through the funeral home’s floral and memorial tree services.

For those wishing to express condolences, messages, and memories may be shared on Ja’Kayla’s tribute page through Good Shepherd Funeral Home’s website at goodshepherdfh.com.

The funeral home is also offering complimentary daily grief support messages for those coping with loss, which can be requested through their website.

Ja’Kayla Leanne Torres lived only seven months, but in that time, she became the center of her mother’s world. She is gone far too soon, and her memory will be carried forward in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
