“Both of you have done a great job this past year, especially — it’s not been easy, that’s for sure. We’re grateful, thank you,” Mayor Maureen Donker said, also referring to City Attorney James O. Branson III.

Messrs. Branson and Kaye were scheduled to have their performance reviews in June, however they were delayed due to the commnunity’s response to the May dam failures and flood, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Kaye will receive a $2,500 bonus “in recognition of the significant number of days and hours worked consecutively responding to COVID, dam failures and flood, and social unrest within the community,” Councilman Diane Brown Wilhelm (Ward 4) read aloud during the council meeting.

Mr. Kaye will also receive a 1.5 percent raise, retroactive to July 1, and a 1 percent raise on Jan. 1. Mr. Kaye’s compensation was $156,071 in 2019.
