Skai Jackson Files for Restraining Order Against Ex Over Abuse Allegations
Actress Skai Jackson has taken legal action to protect herself and her infant son. The 23-year-old Disney Channel alum filed for a restraining order against her ex, Deondre Burgin, in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The request comes after serious allegations of domestic violence, including a disturbing incident on Mother’s Day.
Allegations of Physical and Emotional Abuse
In court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Jackson described a violent attack that took place earlier this month while she was holding their newborn son, Kasai. She claims Burgin grabbed her by the hair, slammed her head into a car window, and punched her in the face. She also detailed a pattern of abuse that reportedly lasted for six months, during which she said she was choked, scratched, and slammed into walls on a weekly basis.
Jackson also claimed Burgin broke her personal property, including a television and an iPhone. More distressingly, she alleged that while she was pregnant, Burgin told her to drink bleach to kill their unborn child. In another incident, she claimed he held her at knifepoint and threatened to stab her if she cried for help.
She says she has video evidence of one violent episode, where Burgin allegedly punched through a bathroom door, then choked her after forcing his way inside. Jackson said she “could not breathe” as he held her by the neck.
A Mother’s Courage to Protect Her Son
A source close to the actress told PEOPLE that Jackson filed the restraining order to ensure the safety of herself and her child. “The safety and well-being of her family is the top priority,” the source said. “This restraining order was filed as a necessary measure to protect her and her child from continued harassment and threats.”
Jackson welcomed her baby, Kasai, in January 2025. At the time, she kept the identity of the father private. She shared the news on Instagram with a photo of her holding her son’s hands, captioned with “Kasai 🧸🤎.”
In February, during her appearance at the 56th NAACP Image Awards Creative Honors, Jackson spoke about how joyful and challenging motherhood had been. “I love being a new mom,” she said. “It’s just so exciting.” She also shared how balancing motherhood and her career has been difficult but deeply rewarding. “I’m doing it for him at the end of the day,” she said. “So I definitely learned that about myself. I can just handle whatever at this point.”
This filing marks a heartbreaking turn in what had seemed like a hopeful chapter in her life. The court will now review the case and determine the next legal steps.
