Sikeston, Aspiring Teacher Kaidyn Pearson, 23, Passes Away Following Crash on Scott County Highway

A 23-year-old Sikeston woman lost her life Tuesday morning following a two-vehicle crash in Scott County, Missouri, leaving family, friends, and her tight-knit community in mourning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kaidyn Pearson was driving on Highway Z when her vehicle crossed into the path of an oncoming car. She was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 19-year-old woman from Vanduser, was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries.

The crash sent shockwaves through the communities of Sikeston and Vanduser, where Pearson was widely known and deeply loved. Friends and classmates flooded social media with heartfelt tributes, painting a portrait of a young woman who touched virtually everyone she met.

Those who knew Pearson described her as someone who made people feel seen, valued, and cared for. Friend Madalyn Fodge wrote that Pearson was the girl who could easily put a smile on your face, someone you would turn to whenever you needed a shoulder to cry on, and a person who never judged a soul.

Fodge had made plans with Pearson for that very Tuesday morning, with the two set to meet for lunch, visit Hobby Lobby to shop for classroom decorations, and spend the afternoon tanning together. Those plans, of course, never came to be.

Another close friend, Abigail Vaught, described Pearson as the human form of yellow, someone who was bright, warm, and impossible to ignore. Vaught remembered her as a person full of life, love, and faith, the kind of friend everyone needed in their lives.

Kaitlyn Wohlferd reflected on how Pearson always made a point to stay in touch regardless of the distance between them. Jamie Simpson, who had known Pearson since childhood, recalled memories that stretched back nearly two decades, writing simply that the loss was beyond words.

I am truly at a loss for words. I am so incredibly grateful to have all of the memories we’ve shared together. No matter how many miles were between us you always made sure to stay in touch with me. I am so proud of the woman you grew into. I love you with all my heart sweet friend and I find comfort in knowing you’re with the lord. Lexi Hargrove noted that Vanduser, a small community that has endured loss before, was once again facing grief, calling Pearson’s passing a heartbreaking reminder of how precious life truly is.

Beyond the personal friendships, Pearson was also remembered as someone with a deep faith and a giving spirit. Multiple tributes noted her commitment to helping others, her infectious laugh, and her ability to light up any room she walked into.

Friends mentioned she was working toward becoming a teacher, with classroom decorations among her plans just before her death.

The outpouring of condolences across social media reflected just how wide her reach had been. From childhood friends to college acquaintances to those who had only known her briefly, the common thread in every tribute was the same. Kaidyn Pearson made people feel better simply by being around her.

Prayers and thoughts have continued pouring in for her family and all those who loved her. As one friend put it, the world lost a little more color on Tuesday. She was 23 years old.
