Oilers Rally Beat Golden Knights 4-2 in Game 1
The Edmonton Oilers pulled off a gritty comeback Tuesday night in Game 1 of their Western Conference second-round battle, rallying from a two-goal deficit to beat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 at T-Mobile Arena. With the game tied late in the third, it was Zach Hyman who delivered the dagger, helping the Oilers steal one on the road and take a 1-0 series lead.
Let’s break down how it all unfolded.
How Did the Golden Knights Build an Early Lead?
Vegas came out hot in front of their home crowd. Mark Stone put on a show early, scoring twice in the first period to give the Golden Knights a 2-0 cushion. His first came on the power play just over two minutes in, when a point shot bounced off his shin and past Oilers goalie Calvin Pickard.
He struck again at 9:03, this time finishing a slick feed from Jack Eichel. Stone curled around Corey Perry and snuck the puck five-hole for his second of the night. Vegas looked in full control at that point.
But Edmonton wasn’t ready to back down. Perry got some revenge of his own, trimming the deficit to 2-1 before the first intermission. Connor McDavid set him up on a perfect backdoor feed, and Perry finished calmly to give the Oilers some life.
What Sparked the Oilers’ Third-Period Surge?
The game stayed tight in the second period, but the Oilers came out flying in the third. Just 57 seconds in, Leon Draisaitl tied it up. He pounced on a loose puck behind the net after Evan Bouchard’s shot bounced awkwardly, and banked it in off goalie Adin Hill’s pad from below the goal line. The goal swung momentum Edmonton’s way.
Then came the big moment. With under three minutes to go, Evander Kane found Zach Hyman open at the top of the right circle. Hyman let it rip, firing a wrist shot high over Hill’s glove to give the Oilers a 3-2 lead. It was a picture-perfect snipe at a critical time.
Just over a minute later, Connor Brown put the game away. He danced around Shea Theodore on a solo rush and buried the insurance goal, sealing the 4-2 victory and silencing the Vegas crowd.
McDavid finished with two assists, and Pickard stood tall with 15 saves, shaking off the early pressure and locking it down in the third.
