Geno Auriemma Family: Meet Wife Kathy, Their 3 Kids & Life Beyond Basketball
Geno Auriemma’s family life has been the quiet backbone behind his high-profile coaching success. While the UConn head coach has built an empire in women’s college basketball, it’s his decades-long partnership with wife Kathy and their three children that truly anchor his journey.
Let’s take a closer look at the Auriemma family, their role in Geno’s rise, and how they’ve supported his legacy from behind the scenes.
Who is Geno Auriemma’s wife?
Geno Auriemma has been married to Kathy Auriemma since 1978.
Their story began at Montgomery County Junior College, where Geno played basketball and Kathy was a cheerleader. The two met by chance after a game, when plans with teammates fell through and Kathy needed a ride home. Geno agreed, reluctantly at first—and the rest is history.
Over the decades, Kathy has remained a steady presence in Geno’s life, offering encouragement through the intensity of March Madness runs and the grind of nearly 40 seasons at UConn. She’s been there for every championship win, every heartbreaking loss, and every defining moment in between.
How many children does Geno Auriemma have?
Geno and Kathy Auriemma have three children: Jenna, Alysa, and Michael.
Although Geno has spent much of his life in the national spotlight, the Auriemma children have embraced quieter, more private lives rooted in family, education, and professional growth.
- Jenna Auriemma Stigliano – The eldest, Jenna is married to Todd Stigliano and is a proud mother of four. In 2010, she and Todd welcomed their first son, Christian James, making Geno and Kathy grandparents for the first time. The family now includes four grandchildren, offering Geno joyful moments away from the basketball court.
- Alysa Auriemma – Alysa, the middle child, earned her degree in English literature from the University of Connecticut. She now teaches and coaches basketball at Miss Porter’s School, her alma mater. Her role as an educator and mentor reflects the values she grew up with: discipline, passion, and purpose—hallmarks of the Auriemma household.
- Michael Auriemma – The youngest, Michael pursued Mass Communication and Media Studies at Assumption University. He currently works as an Enterprise Account Executive at Comcast Business, a role he stepped into in March 2025. Though his path diverged from sports, his upbringing instilled a strong work ethic and leadership mindset.
The Auriemma family legacy
Behind Geno Auriemma’s championship rings and Hall of Fame credentials is a deeply rooted family story—a testament to love, sacrifice, and unity. Kathy Auriemma has been Geno’s closest confidante, while their children have grown into thoughtful, accomplished adults with their own passions and careers.
Now as grandparents, Geno and Kathy find themselves in a new role—one that’s more relaxed but just as meaningful. Whether in a sold-out arena or a quiet family gathering, the strength of the Auriemma family continues to shine.
