Barber’s Son Tyson Goodsell, 17, Gunned Down in Mankato; Alleged Shooter, 18, Linked to Multiple Prior Gun Crimes
A 17-year-old Mankato boy is dead following a shooting that has left his family devastated and a community demanding answers.
Tyson Goodsell was shot in the head and died from his injuries, with his father, Zach Goodsell, breaking the news on social media early Sunday morning.
“My kid didn’t deserve this,” Zach wrote. “He worked and hit the gym. My boy was becoming a man.”
The grief poured in quickly from friends and neighbors, many of whom described Tyson as a young man who was actively trying to build something for himself.
Three suspects, Ryan Wolner, Jaxon Sageng, and Abdikhadar Fakhi Mohidin, known to associates as “Khadar,” were taken into custody in connection with the killing.
A fourth name, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud, known as “Ablick,” has also surfaced as a person of interest.
Mohamud is currently out on bond after being charged with first-degree murder in a separate prior shooting, raising serious questions about how someone facing such charges was free to move about the community at all.
A Pattern of Violence That Went Unchecked
The arrest of Ryan Wolner comes as no surprise to those who have followed crime in the Mankato area. The 18-year-old has allegedly been tied to multiple gun-related incidents in the city before this fatal shooting ever took place.
Court records and a statement of probable cause from a November 2025 robbery paint a picture of a young man who had already embraced a path of armed criminal behavior well before Tyson Goodsell lost his life.
In that robbery, Wolner allegedly approached a victim at gunpoint in a parking lot, using what appeared to be a Glock 19 handgun fitted with an automatic switch, a modification that allows a semi-automatic pistol to fire like a machine gun.
He reportedly smashed the victim’s window, forced his way into the vehicle, and stole nearly $900 in cash along with the victim’s wallet.
A second male recorded the robbery on a cellphone from the backseat. The victim, who personally knew Wolner, identified him with complete certainty by his voice, eyes, and physical build.
Jaxon Sageng, another suspect now in custody, carried a prior weapons charge into this case. Abdikhadar Mohidin had reportedly been involved in a previous shooting as well.
Taken together, the backgrounds of the men now accused in Tyson’s death suggest a network of repeat offenders whose escalating behavior was never adequately interrupted.
A Father’s Grief, A Community’s Anger
Tyson’s father made no effort to hide his anguish or his anger online. “This dude is going to have a hard time in prison,” Zach Goodsell wrote, referring to the suspected shooter.
Friends of Tyson echoed the pain, with one writing that Tyson had just recently been with him and was supposed to attend his graduation party. The friend posted,
“We will have a seat for you there,”
As investigators continue to piece together the full chain of events, the people of Mankato are left asking why so many warning signs went unaddressed.
Tyson Goodsell was 17 years old. By all accounts, he was heading in the right direction. The men accused of ending his life were not.
