Tacoma, 2-Year-Old and 7-Year-Old Assaulted and Strangled at Local Park by Two 10-Year-Olds
A deeply troubling incident unfolded at a local park in Tacoma after a caller on 209th Street East reported that their 2-year-old and 7-year-old children were jumped, assaulted, and strangled by two 10-year-old children. The alleged attackers were picked up by an SUV following the incident, according to a screenshot shared from the Pierce County Scanner app.
The name of the park was not mentioned in the initial report, though a small community park is located nearby in the area. Authorities were notified following the call, and the community has since been left shaken by the news.
Young Children at the Park Without Adult Supervision
One of the most discussed aspects of the incident among community members was the apparent absence of an adult guardian at the time of the attack.
Many residents questioned how two very young children, a toddler and a second grader, ended up at a park without proper supervision.
Community member Sativa Sativa was among the first to raise the question, asking why a 2-year-old and a 7-year-old were at a park without an adult present.
Leah Creative-Soul agreed, noting that unless the park was directly accessible through a back door, the situation did not make sense. She added that as a mother, she would never send children that young to a park without someone accompanying them.
Tifanie Hanthorn echoed similar concerns, questioning how the children were far enough from their parents or guardians for the assault to even be possible.
Ummmm why was a 2 year old and 7 year old so far away from their parents/guardians that this was even possible??
Nancy Gongora and Heidi Magana also expressed the same reaction, both immediately asking who was watching the children at the time.
Stephanie Fameli offered a possible explanation, suggesting that perhaps the parents were on another part of the playground and simply could not see what was happening.
Sativa Sativa the only thing I could think of is maybe the parents were on the other side of the playground. Otherwise, if they were there alone that is great cause for concern
Erik President McCann pointed out that while children roaming freely may have been common in past decades, a 7-year-old serving as the sole caretaker for a 2-year-old is a responsibility too great for that age.
Community Reacts to the Violence
Beyond the supervision concerns, many residents were disturbed by the level of violence involved, particularly given the ages of everyone involved.
The alleged attackers were only 10 years old, yet the report described the younger children being jumped, assaulted, and strangled.
Steve Nemchik shared a more reflective take, saying he wanted to direct anger at the 10-year-olds but found himself wondering what those children may have experienced in their own lives to drive that kind of behavior.
Paulette Thompson expressed hope that the park had security cameras that could help identify the individuals and the vehicle involved in picking up the alleged perpetrators after the incident.
Jeremy Elrod hoped that authorities would be able to sort out what happened, while also noting that children as young as 2 and 7 should not be walking around on their own.
Autumn Starr called for more context, saying the entire situation was wrong on multiple levels.
As of now, no further official details have been released regarding the identities of those involved or whether any charges have been filed. Residents are urged to contact local authorities if they have any information related to the incident or the SUV seen leaving the area.
