Tom Felton returns as Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Tom Felton is coming back to the world of magic, but not in the way fans might expect. The actor, who played Draco Malfoy in all eight Harry Potter films, is stepping into the role once again—but this time, it’s for the stage. Felton is set to make his Broadway debut in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Lyric Theatre in New York City, starting November 11. The run will last 19 weeks and marks a major full-circle moment for the actor.

First Film Actor to Join the Stage Play

This casting news is big. Felton is the first original cast member from the Harry Potter movies to join the official stage adaptation. That alone makes his appearance feel like a historic event for fans. He’s not just taking any role either. He’ll be playing an adult version of Draco Malfoy, now a father in his late 30s, which perfectly aligns with Felton’s real age.

Set 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the play follows the next generation of wizards, including Draco’s son, Scorpius. It dives deep into themes of legacy, friendship, and what it really means to grow up with magic—and baggage.

Felton Calls It a “Full-Circle Moment”

Felton spoke openly about how meaningful this return feels. He described his time in the films as one of the greatest honors of his life. Now, stepping into Draco’s shoes once more feels surreal. “When I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, I’ll also be the exact age Draco is in the play,” he said. He even mentioned the iconic platinum blond hair that made Draco such a visual standout.

Producers Excited to Welcome Him

The play’s producers, Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, are thrilled to have Felton join the Broadway cast. In a joint statement, they highlighted how important his original portrayal was to the Harry Potter universe. To them, Draco Malfoy was never just a villain. He was a character struggling with parental expectations, personal doubt, and deep emotional conflict.

Fans who grew up watching Felton as Draco now get the rare chance to see that character come to life again in a brand new way. This isn’t just nostalgia—it’s storytelling continuing to grow.
