Shooting at Fairfield High School Leaves 3 Students Injured, Suspect Still at Large
Three students were shot Wednesday evening following a graduation ceremony held at Fairfield High School in California, according to officials and eyewitness accounts.
The shooting sent shockwaves through the community and prompted a large law enforcement response at the school campus.
What Happened at Schafer Stadium
The ceremony was for Sem Yeto High School, which held its graduation at Fairfield High School’s Schafer Stadium.
According to a Fairfield Unified School District spokesperson, the shooting did not occur during the ceremony itself but broke out afterward, once the formal event had concluded.
A man who attended the graduation told KCRA 3 that the shooting happened in the parking lot as families and students lingered to take photos and celebrate.
One father, who had come to support a friend’s daughter at the ceremony, said he heard gunshots and immediately started running. A livestream of the event was reviewed by reporters and showed no shots fired during the graduation proceedings.
Suisun City Mayor Alma Hernandez confirmed the shooting took place at Schafer Stadium and said on social media that authorities were actively searching for the shooter.
She also noted there was an ongoing chase in Fairfield connected to the incident, though she did not immediately provide further details.
The Solano County Sheriff’s Office said it was assisting Fairfield police with the investigation. The conditions and ages of the three victims were not immediately released, and no suspect description was made available to the public.
Roads Closed as Police Investigate
Fairfield police said officers began receiving calls about the shooting around 7 p.m. and responded to the campus, which had drawn a few hundred people for the event.
Roads near the school were quickly closed as part of the response, with Cement Hill Road and East Atlantic Avenue placed on lockdown. Officers worked to redirect traffic and crowds north along North Texas Street.
Authorities advised anyone needing to approach the area to use Air Base Parkway and Texas Street as alternate routes.
Fairfield police clarified that the event where the shooting took place was not Fairfield High School’s own graduation ceremony, which remains scheduled for Friday.
District and law enforcement officials were working to ensure that the upcoming event proceeds with appropriate safety measures in place.
The investigation was still in its early stages Wednesday night, with police unable to immediately confirm the exact number of injured or provide updates on the victims’ conditions. Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to contact the Fairfield Police Department directly.
The incident drew heavy coverage from Bay Area news outlets, with crews dispatched to the scene as details continued to emerge throughout the evening.
The broader community expressed grief and concern on social media, with local officials calling for calm while law enforcement worked to piece together the full sequence of events.
No arrests had been announced as of the initial reports, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remained under active investigation.
