Soledad Police Hunt Two Suspects After Man Gunned Down on West Street

A fatal shooting in Soledad on Sunday morning has left one man dead and two suspects on the run, according to the Soledad Police Department. The incident has prompted an active homicide investigation as officers work to identify those responsible.

Officers responded at approximately 11:04 a.m. on Sunday, May 31, to the 100 block of West Street following a report of a shooting victim. When they arrived on scene, they found an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Despite immediate life-saving efforts by officers and emergency medical personnel, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released by authorities at this time.

The area around West Street, near a local substation, was quickly shut down as law enforcement and emergency personnel flooded the scene.

Suspects Seen Fleeing on Foot After the Shooting

According to the preliminary investigation, two suspects were seen running westbound on West Street immediately following the shooting.

As of Sunday afternoon, neither suspect had been apprehended, and police have not yet released descriptions of the individuals involved.

The motive behind the shooting also remains unknown at this time, and investigators have not disclosed any information about what may have led up to the deadly confrontation.

The same Sunday afternoon, State Parks rangers and California Highway Patrol officers responded to a separate domestic violence incident near Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park in Big Sur, where a suspect resisted arrest and injured several officers.

That suspect was detained, and the victim in that case was made safe. While these incidents are unrelated, they have cast a shadow over what was otherwise a quiet late-spring weekend in the region.

Back in Soledad, investigators continue to gather evidence and canvass the neighborhood for witnesses. The Soledad Police Department has not announced any arrests or named any persons of interest in connection with the West Street homicide.
