Former State Rep. Gary Glenn says cancer has returned a second time

Former State Rep. Gary Glenn announced on Sunday that his doctors have taken him off of his oral chemotherapy medication because “it’s no longer working to stop the cancer from spreading,” after finding a new, small tumor during a CT scan.

Mr. Glenn is the husband of current State Rep. Annette Glenn. He was first diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer in 2016.

Mr. Glenn said that his PSA score — a blood test that detects cancerous activity in the bloodstream — has been increasing, “doubling every six weeks, and accelerating.”

“The only other prospect of treatment [that University of Michigan] is offering is the possibility of getting me into a trial of an experimental treatment which, in previous testing in Europe, has extended life by an average of only four additional months,” Mr. Glenn said.

Mr. Glenn left public office after serving two terms in the Michigan House of Representatives. He ran unsuccessfully for the 31st state Senate seat, losing the Republican primary to Kevin Daley.

“The medical options, apparently, may be diminishing, but praise the Lord that I’m still around at all over five years after a stage 4 diagnosis that had destroyed my L-5 vertebrae and cut me in half skeletally,” Mr. Glenn said. “During which time I got to walk my only daughter down the aisle, met my only son-in-law and four new grandbabies, and saw my wife sworn in to succeed me in the state House of Representatives. Gratitude attitude. God is good.”
