Annette Glenn files to run for state Senate

By

MIDLAND, Mich.— State Representative Annette Glenn has organized a committee to run for state Senate. Ms. Glenn won a second term in the state House just four months ago, defeating Democratic candidate Sarah Schulz in a bitter election.

State Sen. Jim Stamas, who was elected in 2018 to a four-year term, is term-limited.

The committee, Annette Glenn for State Senate, was formed on Feb. 23. Organizing paperwork lists Jenell Leonard as the committee’s treasurer. The committee’s bank is listed as Huntington Bank on N. Saginaw Rd. Ms. Leonard is also the treasurer for Ms. Glenn’s other committee, Annette Glenn for Michigan.

Midland has a tradition of sending its G.O.P. state representatives to the state Senate in a game of ‘musical politicians’ due to term-limits. Then-State Rep. Tony Stamas was elected to the state Senate after serving in the state House, then State Rep. John Moolenaar was elected to the state Senate after serving in the state House, before moving on to replace U.S. Rep. Dave Camp; and Jim Stamas was elected to his current post after having served in the state House.

This is a developing story.

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that State Sen. Jim Stamas was elected last November. Mr. Stamas was, in fact, elected in Nov. 2018 to a four-year term in the state Senate.
