Midlander starts Change.org petition to fight the ‘road diet’

Jan. 26, 2021

Midlander Lance Kebler has started a Change.org petition to gather signatures in opposition to the reduction of Buttles Street from three lanes to two.

On Monday night, the Midland City Council voted 3-2 Monday night to call for a permanent reduction of the roadway. City Manager C. Bradley Kaye has also told the council that “a further discussion on Indian Street is anticipated in the near future once direction for Buttles Street has been set.”

“I live in the Bullock Creek area and travel through that area very frequently. I saw the opposition on AskMidland and decided that taking 5 minutes to create a petition could be beneficial for all those who also have negative opinions on the road diet,” Mr. Kebler told the City Paper.

Moolenaar Will Not Object to Electoral College Results

Jan. 5, 2021

John Moolenaar

U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar will not join the growing chorus of congressional Republicans in voting to object to the results of the Electoral College in the 2020 presidential election when Congress meets tomorrow in a joint session to certify those results.

“When the results arrive in Congress, the Constitution says the certificates from the states shall be opened ‘and the votes shall then be counted.’ There is no other role for Congress to play in the presidential election. The Constitution simply says Congress should count the votes and it does not allow for Congress to insert its own electors for any state,” Mr. Moolenaar told ABC12 News.

“Our state legislature has not contested Michigan’s Electoral College results, and none of the other state legislatures have called for their own results to be contested. I have sworn an oath to defend the Constitution. I will uphold that oath and accept the electoral results set to Congress by the states of our republic.”
