Rodgers to Formally Request Recount in City Council Race

MIDLAND, Mich. — Jeremy Rodgers will formally request a recount after losing to incumbent Pam Hall by just 11 votes in the race for the Ward 1 seat on the Midland City Council.

Because Ms. Hall’s unofficial margin of victory was less than .5 percent, the Rodgers campaign will pay $25 per precinct, or $150, and then another $150 to count the absentee ballots, for the recount.

“Midland is a great community and we have a long history of integrity in our election process. I want to to thank all of our election workers and both the Midland County Clerk, Ann Manary, and the Midland City Clerk, Erica Armstrong, for their hard work. They did a phenomenal job. I also want to thank the residents of Ward 1 for doing their civic duty and voting. Due to the incredibly narrow margin of the election results, 11 votes or a margin of less than half a percentage point, I am requesting a recount of the vote,” Mr. Rodgers said in a statement sent to the City Paper.

Ms. Hall defeated Mr. Rodgers 1362 votes to 1351 votes. In 2018, Ms. Hall was elected to the Midland City Council in 2018, defeating Mr. Rodgers by 28 votes.
