Golf Tournament Canceled for 2020 due to COVID-19 Pandemic

The Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational has been canceled for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The decision by Dow and the LPGA to cancel was certainly not easy,” said Dow Chairman and CEO Jim Fitterling. “We explored all available options, and the LPGA has been working with us every step of the way. We are convinced that moving toward planning an incredible tournament in 2021 is the right decision to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Our goal is to grow and improve each year, and we look forward to accomplishing that next year.”
MIDLAND, Mich. — The Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational will be the first tournament on the LPGA’s schedule when the tour resumes normal operations due to the coronavirus pandemic. The tour released a revised schedule of 21 events for 2020 in a news release on Wednesday morning.
“To be honest, being first has never been the goal when it comes to returning to play in this new normal,” LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan said. “We have built a schedule that we think is as safe as possible given what we know about travel bans, testing availability and delivering events that our sponsors and athletes will be excited to attend.”
The $2.3 million-purse tournament is scheduled for July 15—18 at the Midland Country Club. Last year, the competition was awarded LPGA Tournament of the Year honors during its inaugural year.
Dow, Inc. hosts the tournament and released a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
“Dow is currently assessing all factors with regard to hosting the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational in July and will have more information to share as it becomes available.”
