MIDLAND, Mich. — Hockey’s Holy Grail will not be coming to town, after all. Midland Brewing Company, through a spokesperson, has told the City Paper that it was not able to secure a Stanley Cup appearance on Dec. 28 as previously announced.

The brewing company previously announced that the coveted, 126-year-old sports trophy would be on display at the brewery on Dec. 28 from noon to 1 p.m.

“The exciting part of this is that we have received permission to utilize the Stanley Cup during the brewing process (that’s right, we’re making beer with it!). To our knowledge no other brewery has done something like this before,” the announcement said.

A spokesperson for the company told the City Paper that the brewery had “been offered a sponsorship but as these things go, they were not able to work out the details so the offer was withdrawn.”
