Was a GoFundMe Really Created for Charlie Kirk Suspect Tyler Robinson?

Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah man, has been arrested as the suspect in the fatal shooting of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on September 10. Robinson is being held without bail as investigators work to determine his motive.

While authorities investigate, screenshots began circulating online claiming that a GoFundMe page was set up to support Robinson. The alleged fundraiser quickly triggered outrage across social media.

The page reportedly stated that Robinson “did what half the state asked,” sparking debate about whether such a campaign could even exist on the platform.

The Alleged GoFundMe Page

An X user shared photos of what they said was Robinson’s GoFundMe. The page listed Robinson as the organizer and referenced raising money after Kirk’s murder.

In one screenshot, the fundraiser description claimed Robinson had “done what the Democrats told him to do.” The images spread widely across political accounts.

However, no active fundraisers linked to Robinson could be found when GoFundMe was later checked by reporters.

GoFundMe’s Response

GoFundMe quickly addressed the controversy in a statement. The platform stressed that its policies do not allow campaigns supporting violent crimes.

“Our Terms of Service explicitly prohibit fundraisers for the legal defense of a violent crime,” the company said. “Any attempted fundraisers for the suspected shooter will be swiftly removed and fully refunded.”

The statement also included condolences: “Our hearts go out to the Kirk family & everyone impacted by this tragedy.”

Public Reactions Online

Following GoFundMe’s response, users on X voiced both skepticism and relief. One asked if the platform would monitor new campaigns to prevent people from circumventing rules.

Another commenter wondered if the fundraiser was even started by someone in the U.S., suggesting it might have been a troll or hoax.

Others praised the platform for moving quickly, with one writing: “Good. Millions of us were prepared to shame you if you allowed this to stand.”

Support for Charlie Kirk’s Family

While Robinson’s alleged fundraiser was quickly shut down, a verified campaign to support Charlie Kirk’s family appeared on GiveSendGo.

That fundraiser was set up to help Erika Kirk and the couple’s two young children. Within just a day, it raised nearly half a million dollars.

The sharp contrast highlighted the public outpouring of sympathy for the Kirk family as they navigate a sudden and tragic loss.
