Star Wars Admiral Piett Actor Kenneth Colley Dies at 87
Fans of Star Wars just lost a familiar face. Kenneth Colley, who played Admiral Piett, has died at 87. His agent confirmed he passed peacefully at home in Ashford, Kent. Covid and pneumonia took him in the end. He wasn’t alone though. Friends were with him.
Colley might not be the first name that comes to mind when you think Star Wars. But for true fans, Admiral Piett was unforgettable. He showed up in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. He was the imperial officer who somehow survived Vader’s wrath longer than most. That alone made him a bit of a legend in the fandom.
What Else Did Kenneth Colley Do?
His career wasn’t just about Star Destroyers and the Empire. Colley had range. He was Jesus in Monty Python’s Life of Brian. That says it all. Going from Imperial fleet to Python’s wild comedy is not something every actor pulls off.
He popped up in Clint Eastwood’s Firefox too. And the huge WWII series War and Remembrance. Shakespeare too — he played the Duke of Vienna in Measure for Measure. On stage, on screen, on TV — he stayed busy for 60 years.
He even came back to Admiral Piett when he did the voice for the Lego Star Wars special. Fans loved that. He did too. He’d show up at fan conventions, sign autographs, pose for pictures. Those moments made him real to a new generation of Star Wars kids.
