Justin Tucker Released by Ravens Amid Sexual Allegations: What We Know So Far
In a surprising and emotional move, the Baltimore Ravens announced on Monday that they are officially releasing long-time kicker Justin Tucker. The decision comes after over a decade with the team, and while the franchise cited football reasons, it follows months of public controversy surrounding Tucker’s alleged misconduct.
This isn’t just a roster update—it’s a moment that has shaken fans, raised serious questions, and stirred deep discussions across the NFL.
Why Did the Ravens Release Justin Tucker?
According to the team’s Executive Vice President and General Manager Eric DeCosta, the release was purely a football decision. In his statement, DeCosta said:
“Sometimes football decisions are incredibly difficult, and this is one of those instances. Considering our current roster, we have made the tough decision to release Justin Tucker.”
No mention was made of the allegations or any ongoing investigations in the official statement. However, the timing of this move speaks volumes. The announcement arrives shortly after multiple women accused Tucker of inappropriate behavior, and the NFL has confirmed that they are still investigating.
What Are the Allegations Against Tucker?
Back in January, a detailed investigation by The Baltimore Banner revealed that six massage therapists in the Baltimore area accused Tucker of sexually inappropriate conduct during professional massage sessions. Just a few weeks later, three more therapists from a luxury spa in the city came forward with similar stories.
That brought the total number of accusers to nine.
The accusations range in detail but all point to misconduct during what should have been routine, professional interactions. The therapists described situations where boundaries were crossed and professionalism was not maintained.
How Has Tucker Responded?
Justin Tucker, now 35, has firmly denied all accusations.
In a lengthy statement shared on social media earlier this year, he wrote:
“These allegations are unequivocally false. I’ve never before been accused of misconduct of any kind. I maintain I did not act inappropriately at any point before, during, or after a professional bodywork treatment session. I would never intend to offend or hurt anyone, ever.”
Tucker also accused The Baltimore Banner of twisting facts and creating “desperate tabloid fodder.”
His attorneys, Thomas A. Clare and Steven J. Harrison, echoed his denial and called the accusations inaccurate. They insisted he had never behaved inappropriately during any massage session.
What Is the NFL Doing About the Situation?
According to head coach John Harbaugh, the NFL is actively investigating the misconduct allegations against Tucker. Speaking to the media just a day before the release was announced, Harbaugh said:
“Any decisions the team made about the kicker would be based on football.”
But given the circumstances, it’s hard not to draw a connection between the investigation and the Ravens’ decision to move on from their All-Pro kicker.
