Jennifer Lopez Dazzles in First Trailer for Kiss of the Spider Woman Musical
Jennifer Lopez is stepping into a dazzling new role, and fans of movie musicals are in for a treat. The first trailer for Kiss of the Spider Woman, directed by Dreamgirls filmmaker Bill Condon, has finally arrived—and it’s packed with glamour, emotion, and powerhouse performances.
A Story of Fantasy, Resistance, and Connection
Set in 1981 during Argentina’s Dirty War, Kiss of the Spider Woman tells the story of Luis, a gay hairdresser played by rising star Tonatiuh. Imprisoned for his sexuality, Luis escapes the harsh realities of prison life by retreating into the fantasy world of classic films. At the center of his imagination is Ingrid Luna, played by Jennifer Lopez, an iconic screen goddess best known for her seductive role as the Spider Woman—a character who literally kills with a kiss.
When Luis is forced to share his cell with Valentin, a passionate Marxist revolutionary portrayed by Diego Luna, the two men develop an unlikely yet profound bond. Through shared dreams, pain, and the magic of music and movies, they find connection in the darkest of places.
Lopez Sings and Shines as Ingrid Luna
In the trailer, Lopez is seen performing “Where You Are,” one of the musical’s signature numbers. The film features 13 songs, all sung by Lopez, Luna, and Tonatiuh, blending the vibrant power of Broadway with rich storytelling.
Critics are already praising the film following its Sundance premiere. Variety noted Lopez’s “smoldering” performance and highlighted Tonatiuh as a standout, bringing depth and vulnerability to his complex role.
Kiss of the Spider Woman hits theaters on October 10 via Lionsgate.
