The Fort Wayne, Indiana, softball community is reeling from the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Febie Booher, a young athlete whose talent, warmth, and infectious spirit touched everyone who crossed her path.
The Fort Wayne Wolfpack travel softball organization confirmed her passing in a post that drew an outpouring of grief from teammates, coaches, and families across the region.
“With heavy hearts, we are devastated to announce the passing of teammate Febie Booher,” the Wolfpack wrote. “Febie was an absolute darling, powerhouse player, an inspiring photographer, and great friend.” The team announced that her number, 21, would be retired in her honor. “She will be greatly missed by the entire Fort Wayne Wolfpack family. #21 will forever belong to you Febie.”
A Player Who Made Everyone Feel at Home
Those who played alongside Febie described her as the kind of teammate every program hopes to have. Teammate Riley Dutt remembered her with deep emotion, writing that Febie made her feel included whenever she felt left out, a simple but profound act of kindness that says everything about who she was as a person.
That quality, the ability to see someone on the outside of a moment and pull them in, is rare at any age, and Febie apparently carried it naturally.
She played for Prairie Heights High School in LaGrange, Indiana, where she was listed as a right-handed pitcher and third baseman standing 5’3″. Her high school career included appearances in the 2025-26 IHSAA Class 2A Softball State Tournament, with her most recent game recorded just weeks before her passing.
She was also building a college recruiting profile through FieldLevel, with her pitching videos drawing attention from programs looking at the Class of 2027.
Beyond the diamond, Febie had a creative side that set her apart. Her teammates and the Wolfpack organization specifically noted that she was an inspiring photographer, a pursuit that suggested a young woman with a thoughtful eye and a desire to capture the world around her.
A Community United in Grief
The response on social media was immediate and heartfelt. The Mad Apple 16U Allen travel program offered condolences to Febie’s family, teammates, and friends.
Anthony Dutt, who had watched her play, wrote simply that she was “an outstanding kid” and that those who crossed her path were “blessed.” Ashlee Hoos offered a message that spoke for many: “Love and miss you forever, Febie.”
Fellow travel ball parent Beth Badders, whose daughter Laila played alongside Febie, described her as “a beautiful young lady taken too soon,” asking her community to keep the Booher family in prayer.
