Cavaliers Bounce Back in Game 3: Are They Finally Back in Control?

With their backs against the wall, the Cleveland Cavaliers delivered the kind of performance that reminded everyone why they were the top seed in the East. On Friday night, in front of a fired-up crowd, the Cavs powered their way to a 126-104 win over the Indiana Pacers, cutting their series deficit to 2-1. And the biggest difference? Health. For the first time in the second round, Cleveland’s regular rotation was back — and it showed.

What Changed for the Cavs in Game 3?

A lot. For starters, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and De’Andre Hunter all returned to action after missing Game 2 due to injuries. Their presence brought both energy and balance back to a team that looked out of rhythm earlier in the series.

Donovan Mitchell stole the show with 43 points, but it was the return of the full starting lineup that gave Cleveland its identity again. When Garland, Mitchell, Max Strus, Mobley, and Jarrett Allen were on the floor together, the Cavs outscored the Pacers by 27 points in just 14 minutes.

Coach Kenny Atkinson summed it up best: “We’re a different team with those guys.”

How Did the Returning Players Impact the Game?

Let’s break it down:

  • Darius Garland: Playing for the first time since April 23, Garland pushed through a painful toe injury and chipped in 10 points in 25 minutes. More importantly, he handled the ball, allowing Mitchell to play off it and conserve energy for the fourth quarter.
  • Evan Mobley: Despite dealing with a sprained ankle earlier in the week, Mobley came back in full force. He finished with 18 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. That’s not just solid — that’s elite. His presence on both ends gave the Cavs a serious edge.
  • De’Andre Hunter: Off the bench, Hunter added eight points and five boards. His size and defensive presence were key, especially in helping contain Tyrese Haliburton, who was held to just four points on 2-for-8 shooting.

Mitchell called Garland’s return a huge boost, even if his teammate wasn’t at 100 percent. “I told him, 20% of you, 30% of you is all what we need, man,” Mitchell said after the game.

Was This Donovan Mitchell’s Best Game of the Year?

It just might have been. Mitchell followed up his 40-point Game 2 with an even better 43-point performance in Game 3. But it wasn’t just the scoring. He played smart, moved the ball, made the right reads, and defended well.

Coach Atkinson called it “masterful” and said it was the best game he’s seen from Mitchell this season. High praise, and it felt earned.

Can the Cavaliers Even the Series in Game 4?

That’s the big question. One win doesn’t change everything, and Mitchell was quick to remind everyone of that.

“We haven’t done anything,” he said. “We won one game. We got to do it again.”

The Cavs now have a chance to tie the series on Sunday night in Indianapolis. They’ll need to bring the same intensity, the same defensive pressure, and the same togetherness if they want to turn this series around.

The return of their full lineup made a major difference in Game 3, but sustaining that energy is the real test. Game 4 could be the toughest one yet.

Are the Cavs Finally Clicking at the Right Time?

For the first time in this series, the Cavaliers looked like themselves. Healthy. Focused. Confident. And when they’re at full strength, they’re a problem for any team.

But Mitchell’s words matter: “We haven’t done anything yet.”

Game 4 will tell us if Cleveland is truly back — or if Game 3 was just a flash. Either way, this series just got a whole lot more interesting.
