Is Reddit Down? Users Report ‘Internal Server Error’ Issues

Reddit users across the globe were left frustrated on Monday evening as the platform faced a major outage. Many reported seeing “Internal Server Error” messages when trying to load posts or access their feeds.

According to outage-tracking site DownDetector, reports of issues began spiking around 5:30 p.m. EDT. The sudden surge in complaints pointed to server-related problems disrupting normal use.

As of now, Reddit has not issued an official statement regarding the cause of the outage or when services will return to normal.

Widespread Frustration Among Users

Social media platforms quickly lit up as Redditors flocked elsewhere to share their struggles. On X, formerly known as Twitter, users posted memes and comments about being cut off from their usual online hangout.

One user joked, “Nooo reddit down how am I supposed to doomscroll and argue.” Another kept it short: “Reddit – internal server error.”

The outage affected multiple regions, with users in North America, Europe, and parts of Asia all reporting similar problems.

Outage Details and Tracking

DownDetector, which monitors outages by collecting real-time data from users, showed a sharp spike in complaints just after 5:30 p.m. EDT. Most of the issues were tagged as server connection failures.

Some users reported being able to access the homepage but not individual subreddits or posts. Others said they were unable to log in at all.

While outages are not uncommon for Reddit, the suddenness of this one sparked a wave of confusion and speculation.

No Official Word Yet

Reddit’s official status page had not posted an update as of late Monday evening. The lack of communication left users guessing about the cause of the problem.

In the past, similar outages have been traced to server overloads, maintenance issues, or unexpected bugs in the platform’s backend. However, until Reddit speaks out, the exact cause remains unclear.

For now, Redditors will have to turn to alternative platforms to vent, discuss, or meme about the outage itself.

A Familiar Digital Experience

This is not the first time Reddit has gone offline unexpectedly. As one of the largest online communities in the world, even short disruptions can send ripple effects across the internet.

Users often flock to competing platforms like X, Discord, or Instagram to share their frustrations when outages occur.

The latest downtime is another reminder of just how central Reddit has become for news, entertainment, and daily conversation online.
