Swae Lee Reveals Girlfriend Left Him For Truck Driver

Rapper Swae Lee, whose real name is Khalif Malik Ibn Shaman Brown, has opened up about a personal heartbreak. In a recent podcast clip shared on X by @raphousetv2, the rapper revealed that his girlfriend broke up with him while he was living in a producer’s basement.

“I was in love with her,” Lee recalled, sharing her exact words: “I can’t be with you anymore.”

According to him, she left him for a truck driver who earned between $7,000 to $12,000 per month.

Swae Lee’s success and net worth

Despite the setback, Swae Lee has built a highly successful career in music. As per Celebrity Net Worth, the rapper is worth $12 million. In 2019, he purchased a lavish Los Angeles mansion for $3.5 million, followed by a $975,000 condo in Miami three years later.

Lee has also seen major chart success. In 2017, he collaborated with French Montana on the hit track Unforgettable, which peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Reflecting on his early life

In a 2023 interview with Moy Baun on REVOLT, Swae Lee spoke about his upbringing. He was born in Inglewood, Los Angeles, but moved to Mississippi at a young age, where he grew up in Tupelo.

As a child, he listened to artists like Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy, while his mother introduced him to old-school hip-hop. These influences shaped his passion for music.

How rapping started for him

Lee said his love for performing began in school. He and his brother would rap before class, and soon large groups of students started gathering to watch their freestyle sessions.

“That was my early introduction,” Lee explained. “Just rapping in front of people, breaking the ice, and being comfortable with crowds.”

He described the thrill of being on stage — the focus needed, the energy of the audience, and the creativity involved in entertaining people. For him, the excitement of live performance was natural.

His first track

Swae Lee revealed that he recorded his first song as a teenager with a basic microphone. Titled Party Animal, the track was uploaded to YouTube and gained around 7,000 views, marking the beginning of his music journey.
