Doctor Admits Guilt in Ketamine Case Linked to Matthew Perry’s Death
One of the doctors implicated in the investigation surrounding Matthew Perry’s death has pleaded guilty to distributing ketamine that was tied to the actor’s fatal overdose. Federal prosecutors confirmed that Dr. Salvador Plasencia, based in Santa Monica, California, admitted to four counts of ketamine distribution.
What Are the Details of the Guilty Plea?
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Central District of California, Plasencia could face up to 10 years in federal prison for each count. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 3. Until then, he remains free on bond but is expected to surrender his medical license in the coming weeks.
In a statement released through his legal team, Plasencia expressed deep remorse. He said he is “profoundly remorseful for the treatment decisions he made while providing ketamine to Matthew Perry,” adding that he is taking full responsibility for his actions.
What Happened to Matthew Perry?
Matthew Perry, beloved for his role as Chandler Bing on Friends, tragically died at the age of 54 in October 2023. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, his cause of death was attributed to “acute effects” of ketamine combined with drowning. Perry’s body was discovered floating face down in a hot tub at his Pacific Palisades home.
The investigation into Perry’s death revealed an underground network of suppliers and drug dealers who were linked to the distribution of illegal ketamine. Plasencia is one of five people charged in connection with the case.
What Penalties Could Plasencia Face?
Plasencia’s guilty plea carries serious consequences. Federal prosecutors said he faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison, a fine of up to $2 million or twice the financial gain from his offenses (whichever is higher), and a three-year period of supervised release. He will also be required to pay a mandatory $400 special assessment.
