Brent Hinds Slams Mastodon After Exit: Calls Former Bandmates “Horrible Humans”

Brent Hinds isn’t holding back anymore.

The longtime Mastodon guitarist, known for his wild solos and unmistakable stage presence, left the band earlier this year. Fans were stunned. After 25 years of shredding with Mastodon, the official announcement in March called it a mutual decision. Quiet, respectful, and mostly drama-free.

At least at first.

The Instagram comment that changed the tone

Mastodon recently celebrated the 11th anniversary of Once More ‘Round the Sun, one of their most loved albums. They posted the album cover on Instagram. Fans filled the comments with favorite tracks and memories. One person gave a shoutout to the song Halloween and said they’d miss Brent.

Totally normal fan behavior. But then things got loud.

Brent himself popped into the comment section. And he didn’t mince words.

“I want miss being in a shit band with horrible humans,” he wrote. Yes, that Brent. No tag. No build-up. Just a full-on burn.

Fans didn’t know what to make of it. But the one who got the reply kept things classy. They told Hinds they still loved his playing and were excited to hear what’s next. No arguments. Just support.

What’s Brent up to now?

Turns out, Brent has been busy with another project: Fiend Without a Face. It’s his side band where he handles both guitar and lead vocals. The sound is different from Mastodon — more offbeat, punk-psychobilly weirdness. But it fits his vibe.

They released one album back in 2017. It didn’t make massive waves, but it showed Brent’s range and creativity outside of Mastodon’s heavy prog-metal core.

Now that he’s got more time, the band is back on the road. They’ve got shows lined up across Europe, including a stop in Sweden this June and another in Portugal in July.

A future without Mastodon

Brent hasn’t announced any plans for a solo album or big tour, but fans are watching closely. After two decades with one of metal’s most celebrated bands, he’s earned the space to do things on his own terms.

And based on his recent online comment, he’s definitely not looking back with fondness.

Even if the split was labeled as “mutual,” it’s clear things behind the scenes weren’t all smooth.

Whether you love the drama or just the music, one thing’s for sure — Brent Hinds still has plenty left to say, and he’s not done making noise.
