The Chapel Hill, North Carolina community is coming together to support the family of Naomi Aguado, a young woman and mother of two whose sudden passing has left friends, family, and former teachers heartbroken.
A GoFundMe campaign launched by family member Marcela Mata has already raised more than $11,500 toward a $14,000 goal, with over 151 donors contributing within hours of the fundraiser going live.
Naomi, who attended Northwood High School and later studied at UNC Charlotte, was described by those who knew her as someone who lived entirely for others. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, cousin, and friend to many.
She was also recently engaged to Eduardo Martinez as of March 2025. She left behind two young children, making her loss all the more devastating for those closest to her.
Former teacher Cameron Vernon took to Facebook to ask the community for support, writing that Naomi had two babies and urging people to consider helping her family during this painful time.
Another person, Jasmine Crump, shared a video of Naomi online and called her “a beautiful soul,” saying she felt compelled to find the footage because of just how kind and genuine Naomi was, inside and out.
A Life Rooted in Faith and Service
Those who knew Naomi say her character was defined by her deep faith and her willingness to show up for people without hesitation.
According to her family, she was the person everyone turned to when they needed someone to listen, to pray with them, or simply to sit beside them in their hardest moments. She never judged, never turned anyone away, and always found a way to offer encouragement.
Her family described her as someone whose generosity had no ceiling. She consistently placed the needs of others ahead of her own, and her faith in God was not just something she spoke about but something she demonstrated through her daily actions.
Many who loved her said she carried a kind of grace that made you feel safe and valued the moment you were around her. Her church community, friends, and family all felt the warmth she brought into every room.
Family Facing Unexpected Costs
While the family grieves, they are also facing the financial weight of unexpected funeral and memorial expenses.
The GoFundMe page, created just hours ago, asks for donations of any size to help cover those costs and give Naomi the farewell her loved ones believe she deserves. The family expressed deep gratitude for every prayer, every dollar, and every message of support they have received since the campaign launched.
Top donations have come in from people like Karla Vargas, who gave $300, and several others who contributed in the $50 to $100 range. The response has been swift, reflecting just how many lives Naomi touched during her time in the community.
For those who wish to contribute, the GoFundMe campaign for Naomi Aguado’s memorial fund remains active. The family asks that even those unable to donate keep them in their prayers as they navigate one of the most difficult seasons of their lives.
