Butts County, Georgia School Superintendent Brent Lowe Passes Away, Community Rallies Around Wife Brandi and Family
The Butts County School System is grieving the sudden loss of Superintendent Brent Lowe, a dedicated educator and beloved community figure whose passing has left students, staff, and families across Butts County heartbroken.
The Butts County Board of Education confirmed the news, with Board Chair Kelly Strickland-King releasing a statement on behalf of the district expressing the deep sorrow felt by all who knew him.
Lowe began his tenure as superintendent on May 1, 2022, and in just a few years, he became far more than an administrator to the people of Butts County. He was a presence.
He was the kind of leader who walked into a room and made everyone feel like they mattered, whether that was a student struggling in class, a coach building a program, or a teacher trying to do right by their kids.
Strickland-King described Lowe as someone who led with grace, humor, and unwavering dedication, noting that he had a way of making every person feel they had both a trusted leader and a dear friend in their corner. Those who worked closely with him say that description hits exactly right.
Allen Clark, Head Football Coach at Jackson High School, shared that Lowe was one of the primary reasons he came to the school.
Clark called him the best boss he ever worked for, pointing to Lowe’s integrity and his habit of always following through on his word as qualities that stood above everything else. Clark pledged that those who remain will continue to work to the standard Lowe set.
Expanding Opportunity for Students Beyond the Classroom
One of Lowe’s most meaningful contributions came through his partnership with Southern Crescent Technical College. Together, the two institutions expanded dual enrollment opportunities at the Butts County Center, giving high school students access to hands-on training in Welding, Mechatronics, and Robotics.
These programs gave young people real workforce skills and opened doors to career pathways that might otherwise have been out of reach. Southern Crescent Technical College released a statement praising Lowe’s vision and calling his legacy one that will continue to shape lives for years to come.
Strickland-King shared on social media that she received the news in the early morning hours and described the day as feeling like a long nightmare. She posted a photo taken just days before his passing, noting how quickly life can change, and asked the community to pray for his wife Brandi, his three children, and everyone who loved him.
The outpouring of grief across social media has been extraordinary. Post after post from educators, coaches, parents, and community members tells the same story of a man who showed up, who cared deeply, and who made the people around him better.
The Butts County Board of Education asked the community for thoughts and prayers as the district begins to navigate what comes next. While the loss is immeasurable, those who worked alongside Lowe say his greatest gift was building something strong enough to carry on without him.
Brent Lowe leaves behind his wife, three children, and a community forever changed by his presence.
