Westford Academy Class of 2025 Graduate, Leanora Murray, Fighting for Life After Car Accident as Community Holds Candlelight Vigil

A young woman from Westford, Massachusetts, is fighting for her life after a serious car accident, and her community is rallying around her family with an outpouring of love, prayer, and light.

Leanora Murray, a member of the Westford Academy Class of 2025, was involved in a devastating car accident that has left those who know her shaken and determined to show their support.

On Monday evening, June 2, community members gathered outside St. Catherine’s Church in Westford at 7 PM for a candlelight vigil organized in her honor.

The event was shared widely through the school’s class Instagram page under the message “Light Up the Night for Leanora,” calling on everyone in the community to come together for an evening of love, hope, and support as Leanora continues her recovery.

Organizers made clear from the start that the vigil was open to every single person who cares about Leanora, regardless of religious background or church affiliation.

The gathering at St. Catherine’s was not a Catholic service, and no one needed to belong to the parish to attend. The message was straightforward: if you love and support Leanora, you are welcome. Come, bring a candle, and stand beside her family.

A Family No Stranger to Grief

What makes Leanora’s situation all the more heartbreaking is the weight of loss her family has already been forced to carry.

According to her mother, Mariann Murray, Leanora lost her father four years ago. In an emotional comment beneath the vigil post, Mariann asked the community to pray not just for Leanora’s physical recovery, but for her peace, and for her late father to meet and guide her through this.

“She’s a beautiful, talented, caring, funny, silly pants. My sweet baby,” Mariann wrote, overwhelmed by the community’s response and asking attendees to take photos and videos of the evening to share with the family.

Family friend Susie Sapienza, who shared a separate post about the vigil, echoed the heartbreak. She noted that Leanora and her mother have already been through far too much, and called on followers to keep praying and sharing.

“Miracles do happen,” she wrote. “Please keep praying and sharing.”

One Community, One Light

The response from Westford was immediate and deeply personal. Dozens of classmates, neighbors, and community members flooded the comments with hearts, prayer hands, and direct messages to Leanora and her mother.

Friends wrote that she had not left their thoughts since the news broke.

One classmate wrote simply, “we love you, Leanora.” Others offered prayers and love for everyone affected.

The vigil brought people together not with answers, but with candles, and with the steady, unwavering love that defines a close community in crisis. The flyer summed up what everyone who attended already felt in their hearts: one community, one light, all for Leanora.

Leanora’s family has asked anyone following her story to continue praying and sharing. For a young woman who has already faced unimaginable loss, Westford is making sure she and her mother know they will never face anything alone.
