Velpen Woman, Amanda John, 50, Dies After SUV Crashes Into Guardrail on State Road 57 in Daviess County
A Velpen, Indiana, woman lost her life on the morning of May 27, 2026, after her SUV ran off the road and struck a guardrail on State Road 57 in Daviess County.
The crash, which occurred near County Road 575 South in the Sandy Hook Curve area, claimed the life of Amanda John, age 50, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received the call at approximately 11:27 in the morning reporting a vehicle that had hit a guardrail.
Responding deputies found John’s white 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe had traveled off the west side of the roadway before striking the guardrail and coming to rest in a deep ditch along the rural stretch of road. The cause of the vehicle leaving the roadway remains under investigation, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
John was a married woman who had deep roots in the Washington, Indiana area, having grown up in South Washington. She had been a longtime resident of Velpen, a small community in Daviess County, where she was known and loved by those around her.
Friends took to social media to share their grief following the news of her passing. One friend, Amanda Beebe, posted a heartfelt tribute saying simply that John had been her friend, expressing sadness at the tragic loss.
