Yulissa Escobar Breaks Silence After Love Island USA Exit and Podcast Controversy
Yulissa Escobar’s journey on Love Island USA Season 7 ended almost as quickly as it began, and now she’s finally opening up about it. The 27-year-old reality TV star exited the show in Episode 2 and took to Instagram to reflect on her short stay and the controversy that followed her.
Her post was a mix of appreciation and ownership. She shared photos from the villa and memories with fellow Islanders, but the attention quickly shifted to a resurfaced podcast clip that caused a stir online. In the clip, which dates back to 2021, Escobar could be heard using the n-word while talking about someone from her past.
Addressing the Podcast Clip
On Instagram, Yulissa didn’t shy away from the issue. “Podcast clips from years ago have recently resurfaced,” she wrote. “And I want to address it directly.” She admitted to using a racial slur and called it a mistake made out of ignorance. “I wasn’t trying to be offensive,” she added, “but I recognize now that intention doesn’t excuse impact.”
Taking On Cancel Culture
Yulissa also spoke about cancel culture and how she feels it has shifted from holding people accountable to becoming a space for viral hate. “It’s online brutality,” she said. “A trend for clout.” She defended herself by clarifying that the video was from 2021, not 2024 as some claimed. “That video doesn’t define me,” she wrote, “but how the internet treats people? That says everything.”
Still Owning Her Moment
Despite the drama, she ended her statement on a confident note. In one of her posts, she posed in a bikini and captioned it, “And in case you forgot the name… it’s written on the suitcase. I still had a timeee!” Whether you loved her or questioned her choices, Yulissa made sure to leave her mark.
