When Will The Testaments Release? Here’s What We Know So Far

Fans of The Handmaid’s Tale are eagerly waiting to dive into the sequel series, The Testaments. This new show picks up the story years later and centers on June’s daughter, Hannah, who has been raised by a commander’s family far from Boston. If you’re wondering when it will arrive and who is joining the cast, keep reading for all the latest details.

What Is The Expected Release Window for The Testaments?

As of now, Hulu has not announced an exact release date for The Testaments. Production officially began on April 7, 2025, so the cameras are rolling and the project is well underway. Since the series is still being made, viewers can likely expect to see it premiere sometime in 2026 or early 2027.

Elisabeth Moss, who starred in The Handmaid’s Tale, is returning as an executive producer for this new series. So even though she won’t be on screen, she’s closely involved behind the scenes.

Who Will Star in The Testaments?

Several familiar faces from The Handmaid’s Tale will be back, with Ann Dowd reprising her role as Aunt Lydia. But the story focuses mostly on a new generation of young women growing up in the world of Gilead. The cast includes:

  • Chase Infiniti as Agnes or Hannah
  • Mabel Li as Aunt Vidala
  • Rowan Blanchard as Shunammite
  • Lucy Halliday as Daisy
  • Eva Foote as Aunt Estee
  • Kira Guloien as Rosa
  • Shechinah Mpumlwana as Jehosheba
  • Mattea Conforti as Becka
  • Amy Seimetz as Paula
  • Isolde Ardies as Hulda
  • Birva Pandya as Miriam
  • Brad Alexander as Garth

This fresh cast will bring new perspectives and stories within the familiar, strict world viewers already know.

What Will The Testaments’ Story Be About?

Based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel of the same name, The Testaments takes place 15 years after The Handmaid’s Tale. Hulu describes it as the story of young women born into Gilead who have no memories of life outside its oppressive regime.

These women face a future where they may be forced into marriage and servitude. To survive and claim their freedom, they’ll need to find allies old and new.

Showrunner Bruce Miller teased that this sequel will explore a world that feels “different” from the original series. He described The Testaments as “an independent curveball” and a “separate chapter” with horizons that are “more limitless.” This means fans should expect fresh storylines and new challenges in the Gilead universe.

The series promises to bring exciting twists and new faces while keeping the intense atmosphere fans love. So, while waiting for the premiere, fans can look forward to a deeper dive into Gilead’s next chapter.
