Tyrone HS Volleyball Star, Taylan McGlynn, 19, Killed in Early Morning Blair County Crash
A 19-year-old Tyrone woman is dead after a single-vehicle crash in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 7, according to the Blair County Coroner’s Office. The victim, identified as Taylan McGlynn of Tyrone, died from injuries she sustained in the crash on Kettle Road near Wagon Road in Tyrone Township.
Coroner Ray Benton said his office was called to the scene at approximately 1:41 a.m. Sunday to investigate the death. McGlynn was one of the occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash, though further details about other individuals in the car have not been released.
Authorities noted that alcohol is believed to have played a role in the fatal accident. An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday, and investigators continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Pennsylvania State Police have not released additional information about the sequence of events that led to the crash or whether any other occupants sustained injuries.
A Young Life Remembered in the Tyrone Community
Beyond the tragedy of the crash itself, those who knew Taylan McGlynn are remembering a young woman who made her mark in Tyrone.
A 2025 graduate of Tyrone High School, McGlynn was a standout player on the school’s varsity volleyball team, wearing jersey number 6 and competing at a height of 5 feet 8 inches.
She played for the Tyrone varsity program from 2022 through 2025, and her highlight reel from the 2024 season showed a determined and skilled athlete recording kills and blocks against regional opponents, including Central Mountain, Huntingdon, Bellwood-Antis, Bald Eagle Area, and Central Cambria.
For many in the tight-knit Blair County community, McGlynn was more than a statistic in a coroner’s report.
She was a neighbor, a teammate, and a young woman who had recently finished her high school career and was stepping into adulthood. The news of her death sent a wave of grief through Tyrone and the surrounding area on Sunday.
Alcohol-Related Crashes Continue to Claim Young Lives
The circumstances of McGlynn’s death are a sobering reminder of the dangers of impaired driving, particularly among young people.
Single-vehicle crashes in which alcohol is suspected are among the most preventable tragedies on Pennsylvania roads, yet they continue to occur with devastating regularity.
Kettle Road, where the crash took place, is a rural stretch in Tyrone Township, and a crash occurring there in the middle of the night with alcohol as a suspected factor underscores how quickly a night can turn fatal.
The Blair County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the official cause and manner of death, which will be determined following the results of the autopsy. Pennsylvania State Police are expected to release a formal crash report once their investigation is complete, which will provide a clearer picture of exactly how the crash unfolded.
McGlynn was 19 years old. Her passing leaves behind family, friends, former teammates, and a community mourning a life that had only just begun. No further information on funeral arrangements had been made publicly available as of Sunday evening.
