Superman Ending Explained: Ultraman, Luthor, Krypto & Justice Gang

James Gunn’s Superman got fans talking. The movie brings old faces, new surprises and ties up threads in bold ways. If you watched it and felt a bit lost, you’re not alone. This ending really digs deep into who Superman is and what he stands for.

At the end, Clark Kent makes a big choice. He proves he’s not just a Kryptonian built to rule. He’s a farm boy raised by the Kents. After beating Ultraman, who’s basically a brainwashed clone, Clark could have gone dark. But he doesn’t.

He learns Lex Luthor made Ultraman from his hair strand. That’s classic Luthor — smart but reckless. Ultraman never really had his own mind. During their final clash, Superman throws him into a black hole. Is he gone for good? Nobody says for sure. It feels like a door left open for Bizarro.

What Happens With Lex Luthor?

Lex always thinks he’s smarter than the world. This time, he pushes too far. He wanted Ultraman to replace Superman. He also used a pocket dimension to lock Clark away. Big plan. But Lex gets outed. Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen and Eve Teschmacher team up to blow the lid off Lex’s plot. Eve goes behind Lex’s back too, which is wild.

Once the truth is out, Lex gets arrested. He doesn’t die though. He sits there knowing Superman beat him again. You can almost hear Lex plotting his next move even while in cuffs.

Does Superman Really Turn Away From Krypton?

One powerful moment hits at the Fortress of Solitude. Clark finds a secret message from Jor-El. It tells him to rule Earth. But that’s not Clark’s way. He replaces it with memories of Jonathan and Martha Kent. It’s like saying, “Earth made me who I am.”

In a mid-credits bit, Clark chills on the moon. He’s not alone though. Krypto’s with him. Supergirl had dropped Krypto at the Fortress for safety. Now he’s Superman’s loyal buddy. It mirrors how the Kents took Clark in. That final shot says a lot without big words.

The Justice Gang stays busy too. Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific — they help clean up the mess Lex left behind. Metamorpho, who Lex forced to make kryptonite, reunites with his son Joey. He switches sides at the end. It’s a little redemption arc that hits right.

This movie leaves Clark standing strong. Protector. Friend. Not a king. Just a man choosing to guard the place that raised him.
