‘Super Troopers 3’ Officially Happening: Broken Lizard Comedy Team Reunites With Searchlight Pictures

Get ready, comedy fans — the Broken Lizard crew is back on patrol. Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske are reuniting with Searchlight Pictures for the third installment of the cult-favorite Super Troopers franchise.

The comedy group has already written the script, with Chandrasekhar once again stepping in as director and Richard Perello producing. Cameras are set to start rolling later this week.

Familiar Faces Return — Plus New Additions

The entire Broken Lizard team will reprise their iconic roles, alongside returning stars Brian Cox (Succession, Super Troopers) as Captain John O’Hagan and Marisa Coughlan (Super Troopers) as Ursula Hanson.

Joining the cast this time are Nat Faxon (The Way Way Back) as Captain Todd Markowski, Chace Crawford (The Boys) as Baker Buchanan, and Andrew Dismukes (Saturday Night Live) as Coy Burns.

From Sundance to Cult Status

The original Super Troopers was released in 2001 after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival, later winning the Audience Award at South by Southwest. Its long-awaited sequel, Super Troopers 2, arrived in 2018. Both films were written by and starred the entire Broken Lizard group, with Chandrasekhar directing.

Over the years, the troupe also worked with Searchlight on Club Dread and Quasi, while their other hits include Beerfest and The Slammin’ Salmon. Heffernan and Lemme also co-created TruTV’s hit comedy Tacoma FD.

Star Power in the Mix

Brian Cox, returning once again, has had a decorated career with acclaimed performances in The Ring, X2: X-Men United, Troy, The Bourne Supremacy, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. More recently, he earned global acclaim — and three Emmy nominations — for his role in HBO’s Succession.

Coughlan, also reprising her role, has credits across film and TV including Space Station 76, Teaching Mrs. Tingle, Meet Bill, and shows like Legacies and Bones.

Newcomers bring their own credentials: Faxon is an Academy Award winner for The Descendants screenplay, Crawford is widely known for The Boys and Gossip Girl, and Dismukes has earned an Emmy nomination for his work on Saturday Night Live.

The project is being overseen at Searchlight by creative executive Apolline Berty, VP of Production Richard Ruiz, and executive Daniel Yu, reporting to co-heads of film production and development DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas.
