St. Lucie County, FL, Joshua Thompson, 46, charged with trafficking meth and MDMA after search warrant

Joshua Thompson arrested

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. — A Fort Pierce man is behind bars after detectives with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office allegedly found a stash of illegal drugs while serving an arrest warrant on him for the sale and delivery of methamphetamine.

Joshua Thompson, 46, was taken into custody on June 30 by the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Division, with help from the U.S. Marshals South Florida Fugitive Task Force. Investigators say the arrest stemmed from an earlier felony warrant tied to meth sales.

While serving that warrant, detectives said they developed probable cause to search Thompson’s residence and obtained a narcotics search warrant. The search turned up a substantial haul of illegal substances, according to the Sheriff’s Office:

  • About 60.5 grams of methamphetamine
  • About 43.5 grams of MDMA
  • About 0.5 grams of cocaine
  • About 7.68 grams of diazepam
  • About 2.1 grams of ketamine

In addition to the outstanding warrant, Thompson now faces charges of trafficking in methamphetamine, trafficking in MDMA, possession of cocaine, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is currently being held in the St. Lucie County Jail.

Sheriff Richard Del Toro credited the department’s investigators for the arrest, saying drug dealers “have no place” in the county and that detectives work daily to build cases against people trafficking illegal narcotics in the community.

He also thanked the Special Investigations Division and the U.S. Marshals task force for their work on the case.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The charges referenced are allegations and do not constitute evidence of guilt.
