Splitgate 2 Open Beta Is Here: New Maps, Game Modes & A Big Surprise Coming Soon!
Alright, I’ll be the first to say it—I’m not the best when it comes to online shooters. Too fast, too sweaty, too much pressure. But give me a good single-player mode or a chill sandbox and I’m happy. So when I heard that Splitgate 2 launched its open beta today, I did what any mildly curious gamer would do: considered trying it while also stalling by writing this post instead.
Turns out, Splitgate 2 is bringing some seriously cool features to the table, and even if you’re like me and not a shooter god, there’s a lot here that’s worth checking out.
What’s New in Splitgate 2 Beta? Let’s Break It Down
The biggest addition by far is The Lab. If you saw the trailer, you already know this is a game-changer. It’s a full-on map creator. You can build your own custom levels and game modes, which makes perfect sense for a game that already blends the physics of Portal with the gunplay of Halo.
This kind of tool is gold for casual players. You don’t have to grind ranked matches to have fun—you can just fire up The Lab and get creative. Try new layouts, invent new rules, mess around with friends, or maybe even build a chaotic map full of portal traps and call it art. Your game, your rules.
Ready for Some Action? Takedown and New Modes Are In
One of the fan-favorite modes, Takedown, is back. It’s team-based, and it rewards strategy over straight-up kills. If you take down an enemy, your team’s respawns get faster. But if you get clapped, your respawn timer gets longer. It adds a bit of tension without being overwhelming. And if your whole squad manages to eliminate the other team all at once? You win the round. Simple, clean, fun.
Also dropping in this beta:
- Stadium 2.0 – a revamped version of one of the original game’s maps, making its return with better design and visuals.
- 24-player Onslaught maps – this one’s for the chaos lovers. Big maps, more players, and lots of action.
So whether you like small-scale tactics or giant team brawls, there’s something here for every kind of player.
Don’t Miss the Return of “Hunt the Devs”
Remember the flaming disco ball skins from the alpha? They’re back.
Hunt the Devs isn’t a mode, but it might be the most fun challenge of all. If you come across a dev from 1047 Games in a match—wearing that unmistakable flaming disco ball skin—and manage to take them out, you’ll score a special Dev Killer skin for your faction.
It’s a little reward for bragging rights, and honestly, a fun way to keep things fresh between matches.
Something Big Is Still Coming… And Progress Carries Over
1047 Games teased that one more “massive surprise” is still under wraps. They’re planning to reveal it when Splitgate 2 hits version 1.0. No firm release date yet, but here’s the good news: all your progress in the beta will carry over to the full game.
That means there’s no pressure to wait around. You can jump in now, try out everything, and rest easy knowing your hard-earned unlocks won’t get wiped when the game goes live.

This one’s shaping up to be a huge step forward for Splitgate. Even if you’re not a hardcore FPS fan, there’s a lot to love—from custom map creation to low-stakes team modes. It’s more welcoming than ever, and with that big surprise still coming, now’s a great time to jump in.
