Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman Return for Practical Magic 2, Coming Fall 2026

Get ready to stir up the cauldron again. After nearly three decades, Practical Magic is finally getting its long-awaited sequel, and yes, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are both back. Titled Practical Magic 2, the film is officially scheduled to hit theaters on September 18, 2026.

Fans of the original 1998 film have been waiting years for this announcement. Now it’s finally happening, and the magic feels very real.

What Do We Know About the Plot of Practical Magic 2?

While Warner Bros. has kept most of the storyline under wraps, it’s believed that the sequel will draw inspiration from one of the later books in Alice Hoffman’s Practical Magic series. The original movie followed sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who struggled with a family curse that doomed any man they loved.

Where will the sequel pick up? That’s still unclear. But one thing’s for sure — the sisters’ magical roots will likely still play a central role, especially with Bullock and Kidman reprising their roles as the beloved Owens witches.

In a haunting teaser released by Warner Bros., fans got a short but goosebump-worthy chant:
“Tooth of wolf and morning dew. Something old and something new. Let the spell begin to mix. Sept. 18, 2026.”

It’s short, sweet, and spells one thing: the witches are back.

Who’s Behind the Sequel and What Can We Expect?

Oscar-winning director Susanne Bier is taking the reins for Practical Magic 2, with a script by Akiva Goldsman, who also co-wrote the original film. That should bring a nice balance of fresh direction and familiar tone.

Bullock and Kidman are not just starring — they’re also producing, along with Denise Di Novi, who produced the first film. These three are clearly invested in bringing the magic back with care.

While the production timeline is still somewhat hazy, Kidman told Variety earlier this year that the project is “moving ahead rapidly.” That’s good news for fans eager to return to the Owens’ magical world.

It’s worth noting that Practical Magic didn’t do well at the box office in 1998. But over time, it found a second life and became a cult favorite, especially among fans of cozy witchy aesthetics, fall movie marathons, and sisterly bonds.

Warner Bros. even attempted to launch a prequel series, Rules of Magic, in 2019. That project never made it to air, but clearly, the studio never gave up on the world of Practical Magic.
