Richard Wilkins Mistaken for David Hasselhoff During Live TV Segment in London

Richard Wilkins found himself at the center of an unexpected and hilarious mix-up during a live cross for the Today show in London. The veteran entertainment reporter was covering the red carpet premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning when a fan shouted his way, thinking he was none other than Baywatch legend David Hasselhoff.

A man named Noah Knight captured the entire moment and posted it on Instagram with the caption, “Best feeling in the world meeting your idol.” In the video, Noah can be seen and heard yelling “David Hasselhoff!” repeatedly in Wilkins’ direction as the Today crew tried to go live. Despite Wilkins’ composed demeanor, the situation became increasingly awkward for the team on-site.

The Fan Moment That Went Viral

As the scene escalated, Today producers stepped in to ask the enthusiastic fan to quiet down. One producer politely asked, “Sorry guys, we’re trying to work here,” while another added, “That’s very disrespectful.” Wilkins, keeping his cool, responded by saying, “Will you give us a break for five minutes, please?”

The moment didn’t go unnoticed online. The clip quickly picked up traction, with viewers amused by the fan’s genuine excitement and the uncanny resemblance between Wilkins and Hasselhoff. Rather than shy away from the moment, Wilkins leaned into the humor of the situation.

He later commented on the video saying, “Don’t hassle the Hoff!!” and even shared the clip on his own Instagram page with the caption, “Midnight live crosses can be challenging! … post red carpet Global premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.”

A Real Connection Between Wilkins and Hasselhoff

It turns out, the mix-up wasn’t entirely out of left field. Richard Wilkins is actually friends with David Hasselhoff. The two have shared time together in Sydney, with footage from 2019 showing Hasselhoff visiting Wilkins’ home while in Australia filming a commercial.

Hasselhoff has a long and personal history with Australia. He once revealed during that visit that he was one of the only people to ride a wave runner under the Sydney Harbour Bridge while filming Baywatch. He also proposed to his now-wife Hayley Roberts at the top of the iconic landmark.

Their love story is full of cinematic moments. Hasselhoff shared that he proposed to Roberts in multiple memorable places—Cape Town, during a beach picnic in Malibu, and even in front of a charging elephant. But it was the heartfelt moment in Malibu that made the proposal feel truly real to him.

Hasselhoff’s Life and Love Through the Years

Hasselhoff and Roberts tied the knot in Puglia, Italy, in July 2018. This was his third marriage. He was previously married to Baywatch co-star Pamela Bach from 1989 until their divorce in 2006. The former couple shared two daughters. Sadly, Bach passed away in March this year.

Before Bach, Hasselhoff was married to actress Catherine Hickland from 1984 to 1989. His life has certainly been full of highs and lows, and this latest fan moment with Wilkins adds another amusing story to the pop culture mix.

Even if Richard Wilkins isn’t the Hoff, the mistaken identity gave fans a fun moment, and Wilkins proved once again that he’s always game for a laugh—even in the middle of a live broadcast.
