Oroville Teen Ezion Myers, 14, Dies After Firearm Discharges at Friend’s Residence

The city of Oroville is grieving the loss of Ezion Myers, a 14-year-old boy whose life was cut tragically short on Friday, June 5, 2026. What began as an ordinary afternoon visit to a friend’s home on Burlington Avenue ended in unimaginable heartbreak for his family, classmates, and an entire community left searching for answers.

At approximately 2:40 p.m., the Oroville Police Department received a 911 call reporting that a juvenile had been shot inside a residence in the 3800 block of Burlington Avenue.

Officers arrived to find Ezion suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. They rendered emergency medical aid until EMS personnel took over, and he was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment.

Despite those efforts, Ezion was later pronounced deceased. He was just 14 years old.

A Young Life Remembered for Kindness and Joy

Those who knew Ezion describe a boy with a warm heart and a spirit that lit up every room he walked into. His kindness, joyful nature, and the genuine happiness he brought to the people around him left a mark that far exceeded his years.

Classmates, neighbors, and family members have expressed profound grief since news of his passing spread through the community. One message shared publicly captured the depth of that pain, written by a mother on behalf of her daughter who was absolutely devastated by what happened, calling it an accident and a tragedy in the same breath.

Ezion had his whole life ahead of him, and the promise that came with it. His passing has left a void that those who loved him say cannot be filled.

Two Arrested as Investigation Reveals Preventable Circumstances

The Oroville Police Department’s Felony Investigations Unit conducted an immediate and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Detectives obtained and executed a search warrant at the residence on the same day. Through evidence and witness statements, investigators determined that Ezion had been visiting another 14-year-old at the home when the tragic encounter took place. The juvenile suspect was in possession of a loaded firearm. The weapon discharged after being thrown, and the bullet struck Ezion in the head.

The firearm recovered had its serial number removed, making it what is legally referred to as a ghost gun. Two arrests followed. The 14-year-old suspect was booked into Butte County Juvenile Hall on felony charges, including manslaughter, negligent discharge of a firearm, and altering identifying information on a firearm.

Allan Bone Jr., a 20-year-old adult resident of the home, was arrested and booked into Butte County Jail on felony charges related to prohibited possession of a firearm and ammunition, along with a misdemeanor ghost gun charge.

The Oroville Police Department called the incident a heartbreaking reminder of what can happen when firearms are accessible to young people without responsible oversight. They urged parents to store firearms safely and maintain open conversations with their children about the very real dangers guns pose.
