New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt Returns: Studio Trigger’s Wild Sequel

Somewhere between the sugar rush chaos of Powerpuff Girls and the boundary-pushing jokes of Big Mouth, there sits Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. Back in 2010, Gainax just let loose with this anime that no one really saw coming. Angels, lingerie weapons, ghosts, demons, bad jokes, it had everything. Now it’s back, thanks to Studio Trigger, with New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt streaming on Prime Video.

This revival feels like old times but louder and even messier. The Anarchy sisters are back. Panty still obsessed with men. Stocking still snacking on sweets. They’re still in Daten City hunting ghosts. They’re still trying to earn Heaven coins to buy their way back upstairs. Only now, they’ve got even bigger demons to punch through.

What Makes This Revival So Bonkers?

The first episode, titled Homecoming, hits fast. If you watched the season one finale, you’ll notice they jump right off that cliff. There’s no gentle ramp-up. It starts with a quick catch-up from Brief, who’s still around and still hopeless. Now he’s Panty’s kinda-boyfriend. Then it just blows up.

Panty and Stocking fighting each other? Check. Evil brainwashing? Yup. Demonic twins Scanty and Kneesocks showing up to stir the pot? Naturally. Even Garterbelt’s here with his wild hair and even wilder reactions. One joke about private parts runs the whole episode and somehow doesn’t get old. And then, like Trigger does best, they drop a giant monster fight in the middle of it all. Because why not?

It all moves so fast you can’t look away. One moment they’re calling each other out with words that’d make Adult Swim blush. Next moment, they’re swinging katana blades made from stockings.

Who’s Behind The Voices Now?

One change fans did notice quick is the voices. Funimation’s old dub voices are out. Monica Rial, Jamie Marchi, and Christopher Sabat did so well with these characters that it’s weird to hear new voices. But Courtney Lin, Cristina Vee Valenzuela, and Daniel Walton jump right in. It’s a fresh spin but works. Cristina Vee dropping kill lines as Stocking? Perfect. Courtney Lin’s Panty has that same unbothered bite too.

The real charm though is still Trigger’s animation style. They throw every gag possible at you. Visual jokes come and go before you even register them. One second it’s a Marvel Homecoming spoof. Next it’s a demon butt joke. And it’s all bouncing on top of a soundtrack that’s still pure chaos pop.

This is what fans waited years for. Gainax teased it ages ago, people joked about pachinko machines, but nothing happened until Trigger swooped in at Anime Expo 2022. Now it’s here every Wednesday. If you want angels, lingerie weapons, bad puns, and a neon brain-melting ride, New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is the anime trip that never learned how to behave.
