MIDLAND, Mich. — U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar will no longer represent the City of Midland in Congress, after 2022. The congressman announced today, hours after new congressional districts were finalized, that he will run in the newly created Second District, next year.
The Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission finalized new congressional districts today which will last for the next ten years, pending expected litigation. The City of Midland was grouped in with the Eighth District, along with the cities of Saginaw, Bay City, and Flint.
Flint is currently represented by U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee, a Democrat. Mr. Moolenaar, who lives in Midland, will seek to avoid a head-to-head battle with Mr. Kildee by running in the Second District. Under Article I, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution, Members of Congress do not have to live in the district which they represent.
