Lilo & Stitch Actor David H.K. Bell’s Cause of Death Revealed, Two Months After His Passing
Actor David H.K. Bell, best known for his role in the live‑action Lilo & Stitch, passed away on June 12, 2025, just one month after the film’s release. Now, two months later, autopsy reports have confirmed the official cause of death.
According to documents obtained by PEOPLE from the Hawaii Police Department, Bell’s passing was linked to four major health issues: acute respiratory failure, sepsis, hypertensive/atherosclerotic heart disease, and morbid obesity.
Final Hours and Medical Efforts
The report notes that Bell experienced severe breathing difficulties shortly before he died. Emergency responders tried multiple life‑saving measures — including chest defibrillation pads, IV lines, an airway tube, and even an intraosseous needle in his leg after regular IVs failed. Despite their efforts, Bell could not be revived.
The autopsy also revealed that Bell suffered from stasis dermatitis, a skin condition caused by poor circulation, and edema, which leads to swelling in the lower limbs due to fluid buildup. Importantly, there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol in his system.
Remembering His Roles
David H.K. Bell’s final on‑screen role was as the “Big Hawaiian Dude” in Disney’s live‑action Lilo & Stitch, a character inspired by the animated “Ice Cream Man.”
Prior to that, Bell had small but memorable appearances in major TV series. He played Manu Saluni in two episodes of Magnum P.I. (2018–2019) and Isaac in an episode of Hawaii Five‑0 (2014).
Farewell and Closure
Following the release of the autopsy reports, the Hawaii Police Department confirmed that the investigation into Bell’s death is now complete. A funeral service was held for the actor on August 9, 2025, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Waimea.
Bell’s career may have been brief, but his warm screen presence and memorable roles have left an impression on fans, particularly in his final role in Lilo & Stitch.
