Katie Couric Remembers Late Husband Jay Monahan on 36th Wedding Anniversary
Katie Couric took a moment to reflect and share a deeply personal message with her followers on June 10. The veteran journalist and former Today show anchor posted a touching tribute on Instagram marking what would have been her 36th wedding anniversary with her late husband Jay Monahan.
Remembering a life once shared
In her heartfelt post, Katie wrote, “Today, June 10th would have been our (gulp!) 36th wedding anniversary.” She paired the caption with a slideshow of beautiful memories, including photos from their wedding day and special moments throughout their life together.
Katie and Jay were married for 10 years before he passed away in 1998 from colon cancer. He had been diagnosed just nine months earlier at the age of 41. His passing, shortly after his 42nd birthday, left a lasting void in Katie’s life and in the lives of their two daughters.
A tribute filled with love and gratitude
“This is a sad day for me but also a day of gratitude,” Katie shared in her post. “Although our time together ended far too soon, our love endures, especially in our remarkable daughters.”
The couple had two daughters, Ellie and Caroline. Ellie was just 6 years old when Jay died, while Caroline was only 2. Katie noted how much Jay is missed, especially on milestone dates like anniversaries.
Honoring her past and present
Katie closed her message with a touching note to her current husband, John Molner. “A special thank you to John, who understands there is room in my heart for both of them,” she wrote, adding a string of heart emojis to express her love and gratitude.
Her post resonated with many followers, offering a candid glimpse into grief, resilience, and the enduring bond of love that continues even after loss.
