Gunther Reclaims WWE World Heavyweight Title in Gritty Win Over Jey Uso
Gunther is once again standing tall as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion after a hard-fought rematch with Jey Uso on the June 9 episode of Raw. This wasn’t just any match. It was a WrestleMania 41 rematch, and it brought back all the intensity fans remembered from Night 1 of the big event.
This time, though, the outcome flipped.
Gunther Targets the Injury and Seals the Win
Jey Uso had just gone through a brutal fight at Money in the Bank only two days earlier. He came into Raw with a banged-up midsection, and Gunther wasted no time zeroing in on it. From the opening bell, “The Ring General” focused all his attacks on Uso’s injured area, wearing him down and keeping the pressure high.
It wasn’t a flashy finish, but it was strategic. Gunther locked in a sleeper hold that drained every ounce of energy out of the defending champ. Uso fought it, but the damage from earlier matches caught up with him. Eventually, he passed out in the hold. The referee had no choice but to call for the bell.
Gunther walked away with the championship, proving once again why he’s one of WWE’s most dominant forces.
A Bit of Payback from WrestleMania
What made this win extra interesting is how Gunther finished it. He beat Uso using the same move that Uso used to defeat him at WrestleMania. That sleeper hold now holds a little more weight in their growing rivalry.
Uso had won the title from Gunther on April 19 and held it for 51 days. Not a bad reign, but Gunther now becomes the first-ever two-time holder of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. He originally won the belt at SummerSlam 2024 and held it for 258 days.
Now he’s back on top, and he doesn’t look like he’s planning to give it up anytime soon.
